Our Latest Addition

Most of you know by now that Greg, Kaia, Tuck, Abbey, and I have welcomed our lovely Laila Avalon into this world... over 5 weeks ago! I've had great intentions of posting our wonderful news, but I've been too busy living it to write about it. Thankfully, we had help from my mom for the first three weeks and Greg was on vacation last week.

Laila was born December 31, 2008 at 2:21 am. She weighed 8lbs 15oz and was 21" long.

I decided not to post the icky details because a lot of people may not want to read about them; but, let me tell you, there were PLENTY (if you really want to know, send me a message and I'll fill you in)! In brief, and most importantly, our beautiful baby girl is healthy and happy : )

Just a Few Funny Facts
  • Laila was due on January 8, 2009. I called my mom on the morning of December 30th to tell her that I thought my water broke and that the doctor wanted me to come to the hospital to get checked out... The "funny" part: I was in the middle of unloading the dishwasher, Kaia was eating breakfast, and Greg was on a scheduled day off (and still in the bed). I had nothing packed for the hospital! And, my mom was already on her way to the Memphis airport at that time for her scheduled flight to come be with us. She got to our airport, Greg and Kaia left the hospital to go get her, and they all got back in time to be with me before Laila's birth.
  • After several tests, the doctor decided that my amniotic sac had broken and that Laila was breech (!!). After discussing all of our options, we went ahead and proceeded toward the delivery... The "funny" part: I had been so worried that I would wind up with some random on-call doctor who I didn't know instead of the doctor who I had been seeing all along, but my doctor is the one who was on call (yay!). Second "funny" part (and I know my mom would disagree): one of my brothers was born breech. Vaginally. Ouch.
  • Laila weighed 8lbs 15oz... The "funny" part: I kept saying she had to be huge, but no one seemed to believe me and, at every visit, the doctor always said I was measuring right on track. Laila weighed exactly two pounds more at birth than Kaia when she was born and exactly two ounces more than me when I was born.
