Trying to Get Back into the Swing of Things

So, no big post today. BUT, I thought if I just take a second to post something, that's one step closer to actually blogging again. AND, I am determined to get back to it. There is so much that has happened since I last wrote and my girls have both grown and changed a lot. Kaia turned two a little over a month ago (June 19th); and, Laila will be 7-months old tomorrow!

Some time ago, I think I wrote about my dogs, Tuck and Abbey, and promised to post a picture. I don't think I ever did though. So, these are my dogs...

I adopted Tuck (right) from the Louisiana SPCA on Valentine's Day, 2004. They had already named him Kentucky because he was found on Kentucky Street. I kept "Kentucky", but just called him Tuck. A little while later, a friend told us that Tuck reminds him of a "Mr. Pibbles" - whoever that is. Tuck's name became Kentucky Pibbles McDonald Vidal.

Early in 2005, we baby(dog)-sat Abbey for a friend, Jeannie, who was in medical school with Greg. Abbey and Tuck got along incredibly well and we all fell in love with her. After Hurricane Katrina moved the medical students to Houston, Jeannie made the tough decision to let us adopt Abbey. She brought her to me and Tuck in New Orleans. Because of Abbey's road trip (and my love of the Beatles), "Abby" became Abbey Road Rhee McDonald Vidal.

These aren't the best quality pictures, but I love how they came about... Kaia and Laila share a room - Kaia has her own full-sized bed and Laila sleeps in the crib. Way too often, if one or the other is having a tough night, I wind up sleeping in Kaia's bed with her so I'm close enough to deal with whichever baby is having the "issue" : ) On these instances, Kaia wakes up in the morning, gets out of bed on her side, walks all the way around the bed to climb in on my side and snuggles up to me. We stay like that until Laila wakes up, at which time they both play in the crib while I'm laying out clothes and such.

Well, on this morning, Kaia got out of bed on her side, walked all the way around the bed, then leaned in a wispered, "Laila sleeping." I replied, "Yes, Kaia, Laila is sleeping." Kaia walked over to the crib and said, rather loudly, "Laila, wake up!" Laila turned her head around to look at her sister, and just smiled.

Then, Kaia held onto the top of the crib rail, put her leg over the rail as far as she could, and said, "Hep (that's "help" in Kaia-talk) me, Mommy." I helped her up. She arranged the animals, twisting Laila all around to get her head on the bear the way she wanted it, and pulled the quilt up over them. They stayed there talking and playing with each other for about thirty minutes (see I had time to give Laila a bottle). I finally took them out so Kaia and I could go get breakfast.

Well, that was longer than I intended. Both babies are fussing now - Laila for attention, Kaia for a snack. I have so much to share... on another day.

Thanks. The girls amaze me every day, just for being, but also for the ways they show their bond already. I only have brothers and the closest one to me in age is three years older, so I'm constantly in awe of my girls and what they share.
